We all know that making films is an incredibly fun, passion-led practice. However, it’s also a very expensive one. With all the different gear, gadgets, and gizmos it does create a fairly harsh barrier to entry – especially when that tech continues to evolve every year, so just when you’ve got your head around one camera, it’s suddenly out of date and a newer shiny model is on the horizon.

Fortunately, with a whole variety of sales and discounts over this weekend – Black Friday and Cyber Monday create a wide variety of opportunities to collect some gear to kickstart your filmmaking journey. Of course, you can’t make a film without a camera. But with so many different options it can be hard to figure out where to start!

Panasonic DMC-G7

Combining the best bits of a standard mirrorless camera, and a DLSR – the G7 is a cost-effective and strong choice for any first-time filmmaker. Able to capture video at both full HD (60fps), and 4K (30fps), and images with its 16-megapixel sensor, it’s able to be the perfect camera for aspiring photographers and filmmakers.

Canon EOS850D

Moving across the aisle and bulking up a bit in size – we have the 850D from Canon. This lightweight DSLR camera packs a punch with a 24.1 Megapixel sensor, capable of filming at 4K and 25fps – this camera particularly functions well in low lighting situations allowing you to create and capture crisp and high-quality images.

Was £1019.00 and is now £929.00

Panasonic GH5 MK II

Finishing off our list of cameras is by far our most expensive piece of kit. The Panasonic GH5 MK II is the most powerful camera on this list – but is very expensive.  However, a long list of features makes this worth it. Boasting a 20.3 -megapixel sensor, 4K video capture at 60FPS, and a very polished interface – the GH5 is bound to be a camera that is worth the extra pounds.

Was £1699 and is now £1399.00

Here is just a small preview of all the amazing deals available this year, and while it’s fun to shop around for new gadgets – the most powerful filmmaking tool is one that you cannot buy.

You.

So even if you don’t have the shiniest new equipment, go out and make something! You’d be amazed at what you can do with just a mobile phone and some imagination!
