The most dazzling of imagery is not going to hold up against distorted or out-of-sync sound. No matter how much action is on screen, the viewer will be unable to concentrate or digest what is actually happening if they are too busy trying to work out what’s coming through the speaker. They might try and persevere, or they could resort to just shutting the volume off completely because it is such a distraction. Either way the person watching is not fully focused on what’s being shown on screen and they probably can’t understand what’s happening anyway.
