A series of information films we created for Satellite Applications Catapult about the work of their five regional growth teams. We worked with their technical experts to help write the script for a total of ten films overall.

We created two different versions of each film with one set being more technical and specialised while the other was aimed at the general public. Each film used a mixture of stock footage and animation to bring them to life.

Let's demystify the process of video production. We estimate this example to cost around £25k-35k because we logged roughly:

31 days of production management which is high as we scripted and directed a narrative based film. As a ballpark we estimate 1/2 day management per day of shoot and edit. This could be higher for complex projects or lower if you can help with the creative or coordination. This includes scheduling, edit supervision and producing documentation such as risk assessments.

No shoot as this was post production only. We can work with assets our client provides such as images, logos and photos (lower budget), use assets from libraries of stock images, videos and graphics (medium budget) or design and produce original 2D / 3D animation (higher budget). Often we do a mix of all.

30 days of post production time. Generally the length of post production depends on the volume of footage, number of deliverable versions (eg social cuts) and rounds of revisions budgeted. This was not consecutive days as we leave gaps for client feedback.

Voiceover used to convey clear information. VO is very effective but requires actor fees as well as scripting, recording and editing time. We only suggest professional VO if there's not a more cost effective way to convey information such as interviews, on screen text or a recording provided by your team.

Animation / graphic design formed some of the post production. We can design simple titles or use stock animation as part of the edit process but where possible, as we did here, we suggest budgeting for original animation to elevate and brand any film.
