Spring is always an invigorating time of year – and with vaccinees rolling out and restrictions being lifted – it feels extra special! Looking back on a challenging period in production, it is extremely heartening to see the amount of content we produced by tweaking our services so we could continue creating content for our clients while protecting our cast and crew. Check out our 2020 showreel to see what me made throughout lockdown:

Even during the heaviest lockdown, we were able to provide video editing, animation, voiceover recordings and shoots via webcam for our clients. We are keen to return to normal filming and taking advantage of the gorgeous natural lighting that Glasgow is currently providing! Until then, we are keeping our employees, freelance crew and our clients safe by adhering to our safe working guidelines.

Before our latest shoot we presented every set attendee with our guidelines and required that each participant of the shoot signed a declaration form stating that they have no symptoms suggesting, or cause to believe that they have COVID-19. We also made sure that:

  • All crew drove themselves separately to each filming location (unless from the same household)
  • Temperature checks were conducted before we allowed cast and crew on set
  • We staggered our call times to keep crew per location to a minimum
  • All of our equipment was divided between crew members, so no equipment was handled by more than one person
  • Equipment was left for at least 7 days between shoots and sanitised
  • We used our in-house kit where possible
  • We hired our extra equipment from one of our trusted suppliers that follow the necessary COVID-19 protocols
  • We prepped and lit our locations in advance
  • We broke down our kit only after everyone else had left location
  • We kept our crew size to a minimum with essential crew only
  • Limited our filming locations to a minimum and avoided unnecessary travel
  • We also ensured all cast and crew washed and thoroughly dried their hands-on arrival and during the day at regular intervals
  • We provided Alcohol-based (60% minimum) sanitisers as a part of our kit
  • We marked safe distances with tape / signs
  • Provided PPE for any instance where the team would need to break the 2m distancing guidelines

We have been thrilled with the standard of work we have been able to achieve remotely and look forward to continuing to implement these skills on future productions. Below we have a clip from our clients at the Water Industry Commission for Scotland. We were able to achieve these excellent results by providing advice on framing, sound and lighting and by using a combination of stock footage and interviews filmed remotely on mobile phones.

Animation has always been a service that we offer, and we have found that there has been an increased interest in this service during the lockdown period. It is a great way to sell a message – paring clear dialogue with enhanced visual cues. During lockdown, we were hired by the NHS to create a clear instructional video of how to schedule and attended appointments at your local GP during COVID. For this campaign, we created a script and the graphics for the film.
